Bone and Autoimmune-Related Diseases

Osteoporosis

Ovariectomy (OVX) induced model

Osteoporosis is a skeletal disorder characterized by compromised bone strength and increased risk of fractures. The ovariectomy (OVX)-induced model is one of the most widely used and reliable animal models for postmenopausal osteoporosis. Removal of the ovaries mimics the hormonal changes that occur after menopause, leading to bone loss and skeletal fragility.

Applications:

  • Studying mechanisms of postmenopausal bone loss
  • Investigating bone density, trabecular architecture, and fracture susceptibility
  • Testing new therapeutic interventions for osteoporosis and bone health

Histology markers:

  • H&E – trabecular bone structure and lesion scoring
  • TRAP – osteoclast marker, assessing bone resorption

Representative readouts:

  • Histological evaluation of bone architecture (trabecular bone mass and density)
  • Osteoclast activity through TRAP staining

Modelling Platform for Osteoarthritis

Naason Science models include models for primary and secondary (post-traumatic, congenital etc) OA. All models can combine MRI and CT micro-CT. The models are available in a variety of species.

The models are:

▪ Surgical model for ACLT

▪ Surgical model for Meniscectomy (MMT)

▪ Collagenase Injection

▪ Sodium monoiodoacetate /MIA

The models can incorporate histopathology and biochemical analysis as we all as imaging as well as 24/7 home-cage monitoring for:

▪ General locomotion

▪ Circadian Rhythm

▪ Temperature

▪ Anticipatory behaviour

▪ Social distancing – anxiety & depression

▪ Climbing/rearing behaviour

▪ Gait Analysis

▪ Feeding/drinking

▪ Grooming
